Ministry of Education Recommended Learning Resource

Grade Level: K-12

Target Audience: K-12 Educators, Naturalists, Park Interpreters, and Community Educators

This learning resource guide explores the concepts, values and practices that underlie the idea of protected areas, such as parks and ecological reserves, by considering what we protect as individuals, why we protect certain things and places, and how we go about doing it. The values and attitudes that apply to protecting personal things in our lives also influence the decisions we make as a society about land use and protecting natural areas.

This resource is interdisciplinary and includes 19 hands-on activities, background information, additional resource information, and a separate case study called Decisions, Decisions, A Protected Areas Case Study.
