Oncorhynchus nerka kennerlyi, better known as Kokanee, is a subspecies of Sockeye Salmon that spend its entire life cycle in the fresh water lakes of interior BC. The Kokanee of British Columbia educator’s activity guide offers original ideas, activities, case studies, and summaries, to aid educators in teaching about this unique species.

Designed for K-12 and community educators, the manual is written around four key concept areas; Kokanee body and survival requirements change with age; Kokanee migration involves many challenges; Kokanee are integral to various nutrient cycles in BC; Human values and actions affect Kokanee and Kokanee habitat. Detailed graphics, interesting background information and fun, hands-on activities make this manual useful and easy-to-use.

The Wild BC workshop complementing the Kokanee of British Columbia educator’s manual, will take educators through a sample of the activities, provide an opportunity to discuss adaptations to your teaching situation, and provide great background information on Kokanee.
