Science in Action

The [Science in Action] workshop was fabulous – I wish all schools and teachers could go through this. I loved the workshop, I loved the activities, and they really inspired me to get into this program and into the kit. …A lot of time you are given wonderful things and told that there are good activities in the book, but if you don’t get a chance to dive into it, it will sit on your shelf. It’s too bad but its true”. – CF, Brentwood Bay

The Science in Action is an application only program that provides free training, resources and support to meet the science curriculum through lessons that are hands-on and active. Science in Action provides a complete themed-based educator package that consists of a whole-school model approach providing staff training, school-based resources, in-class support and up to $200 per class for outdoor field trip opportunities. The program offers 3 themes, Ecosystems, Water and Climate Change, and works with our most popular resources: Project WILD and Below Zero, Project WET and our Climate Change Education program to provide teachers with fun, easy to use and curriculum-linked lessons.

Science in Action works with your staff over the school year by providing

  • a free professional development staff workshop with 3 themes to select from: water (Project WET), ecosystems (Project WILD and Below Zero) or climate change (Climate Change Education). All staff will receive activity guides in the workshop;
  • free resources: school science kit containing ready-to-use materials, teacher learning resources, and sample unit plans;
  • linkages to the K-8 science curriculum;
  • free ongoing support and consultation from WildBC throughout the year; and
  • a funded local outdoor field trip per class.
